A friend has been suffering from what has been diagnosed as degenerative disc disease for several years. His lifestyle has him doing long distance flights, sitting in workshops, and working at a computer – all activities that are deleterious for sensitive backs.
I was able to work with him recently, suggesting a very simple practice: supta padangusthasana variations, a basic version of ardha jatara parvatanasana, arm and shoulder movements, chair savasana, and a partial squat holding a ledge.
While yoga practices are never one-size-fits-all, this particular sequence has thus far been effective for my friend.
