I don’t know why but I used to have “skeptical” as a pejorative expression, ie. think … dirty word.
I then met Daniel i 1991, and we eventually married. He is a self-proclaimed skeptic. I went to my first Skeptics Dinner way back then (an event for Association members and guests) and discovered another meaning for the word: critical thinking. Presto! The new definition instantly opened my mind to another slant on skeptisim
.
As a further testament to my broad-minded thinking, I’m joining Daniel in attending “The Amazing Meeting” in Sydney – a gathering of Critical Thinkers from all round the globe. We will be entertained and challenged and probably learn a thing or two over the course of 2.5 days.
One thing I like about the Skeptics is that they have felled many shibboleths and lanced much bloated magical thinking, but have never (to my knowledge) had a go at any siddhis, sanyasins, or saints. So far, yoga has been off limits.
Stay tuned to further reports from the rarified air of the skeptical sphere!
