Have you ever seen such a delightful bird? It is an Australian bee eater. It’s beauty is enhanced and memorialised by the artist and printmaker, Ali Haigh, whose art is often a collaboration with the natural world.
Of this particular creation, Ali says:
This was an artwork I had started 6 months ago, but had never quite finished… Now I know why. I was waiting for you! [Really!]
The rainbow bee eaters nest on the dunes, just past second corner at Old Bar, for a small window of time every year.
They are such a special treat to see with their magnificent colours. We often sit and watch them flit and dart, when we are graced with their presence.
The last time we saw them I think there were about 8 mating pairs… just magical!
