Yoga for menopause - Yoga for Perimenopause, Menopause and Beyond

From dilemma to opportunity

Perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause are life transitions that for many women are considered dilemmas.

For example, I scrolled through Pinterest looking for an image. In the same way that it’s hard to find a positive 70-year old birthday card, it’s nearly impossible to find an optimistic spin on menopause.

Yet, isn’t menopause just a natural part of a woman biology? Albeit one that comes with some difficult symptoms.

I’m well past menopause, at least 20 years. But I can truly say that these have been my best years– creative and productive ones. In my 50’s, I got married, sold a yoga business, wrote a book, started up another yoga school, and trained many yoga teachers.

What helped me was making a conscious decision not to accept our society’s negative conditioning regarding menopause. I decided to open up to the experience rather than resist it.

I invented a big gesture to help illustrate to my women friends and myself that we could celebrate this stage. I created a kind of ceremony–a menopause party. I needed to do something positive to make an impact against the tide of common thinking that said ‘menopause is a nightmare.’ This was my way of shaping The Change.’ Not only that, it was a launching pad into the decade of my 50’s, and even beyond.

The Change is a challenge to begin anew, a letting go, renouncing, moving on

To find an unpredicted life not shaped. – Anon. (The Wise Woman)
