 - On the Cusp of the Path of Love Course

Sitting at the airport in Los Angeles, my two and a half weeks in the USA is about to come to an end. It’s been intense. I’ve been to the Sonoran desert of Arizona, attended a heartfelt family wedding on Ohio’s Lake Erie, stayed in the Golden Gate Park neighbourhood of San Francisco, enjoyed Napa/Sonoma’s wine country, bathed in the mineral springs of Harbin, and spent a night in the severely bushfire-ravaged region of Lake County.

When I began this trip, I was feeling sorely in need of a change, a shake-up of a low winter mood. How to describe it? The predominant emotion I was experiencing, if indeed it is an emotion, was loneliness — a mood that occupied me for no logical reason, although I did try diligently to invent a cause.

Im happy to say, that this holiday has produced a felicitious result. I spent time with a myriad of friends and family who have been amply generous in providing accommodation, nourishment, nurture and many other gifts.

My journey is not quite over yet. From Monday, I will be on retreat for a week in the Hunter Valley. I will have time shared with the other 30 or so participants and time on my own.

I found this delicious quote from a poem by English poet David Whyte, words that sum up where I am in this moment… the crazy nowhereness of airport transitions, as well as anticipation of the impending retreat.

Put down the weight of your aloneness and ease into the conversation. The kettle is singing even as it pours you a drink, the cooking pots have left their arrogant aloofness and seen the good in you at last. All the birds and creatures of the world are unutterably themselves. Everything is waiting for you. — from the book Everything is waiting for you
