Renunciation

If there is such a thing as a natural renunciate, I would be one. I don’t have to work hard at saying no to temptations, whether it’s dessert orbiting a new pair of shoes.
I’m not saying this is a good thing.
When I recently wrote about the ages of a person’s life, I mentioned there is an optimum time for everything. Ideally renunciation is timed for the winter season of life. It naturally coincides when many pleasures are off limits anyway.
Me, I just keep saying no, even when pleasure is in the offing.
Here’s an example. Daniel said let’s get a wood-burning heater installed for the winter. I said, no, let’s tough it out this winter and see if we really need one. Nevermind that it was really clear back in May we needed to heat our living area.
But I was willing to stick by my decision no matter how many layers of clothing I had to put on. However, I surrendered to hubby, and today, local jack-and-jill-of-all-trades, George and Anne installed our new fireplace.
I wish you were here – candlelight dinner in front of a fire – on a night when the temperature is predicted to go to 7 degrees. It’s all so inviting.
I might just have ice cream for dessert.
