Out of Your Head

One of the really good reasons to get out of your head and into your body is that is where all your senses are. There are so many things in the world to appreciate through sense of smell, taste, hearing, sight and touch if only we’re awake in our senses to enjoy them.
Today I went to the beach for a walk, even though there was a mean westerly wind blowing and the chill factor was high. Sand was blowing sideways so it was a good idea to walk where it was packed down right next to the surf.
As I walked briskly I could see the little terns, which are an endangered species in these parts, hopping along the edge of the waves. As I would approach closer, they would fly ahead to the next section, hop about some more, and then take off to get ahead again.
I tried to get a photo with the zoom on my iPhone. Ha! The sweet little birds are about as big as a pimple on an elephant in this photo. But even if you can’t see the birds, you might be able to evoke the rushing sound of the sea, feel some spray, and taste the salty air. I guess when we can’t get our hands on the real thing, imagination and memory will have to do.
